About Leah Gillis: Kabbalistic Astrologer & Journalist
I’m Leah Gillis — astrologer, journalist, Kabbalistic astrology practitioner, and Reiki healer (because of course). A double Sagittarius with a Virgo moon, six placements in Sag, 8th House Saturn, and a 3rd House Pisces Jupiter. I know. I am working on it. lol.
Researching, curiosity, and dot connecting are my jam. So obviously I want to learn things, travel, share what I learn, and then learn some more. And I can do it in several languages 😉 — working on my fourth.
From New York Network Journalist to Dot Connector
I spent my entire career as a journalist — first in television in New York at NBC Network News, then in Los Angeles working in print, covering everything from crime to politics to culture. All that matters about that is it led me here. To want to understand our world more profoundly. To get to what actually matters: why. And to make a difference at the root of things.
As a crime reporter I have seen the worst people can do. Covering September 11th from 30 Rock though, I also saw the best. A small town in Indiana brought me wonderful realizations about how alike we humans can be, despite how different our lives. The North Carolina coast before a hurricane showed me how selfless people can be and how beautiful and awesome nature is, even as it terrorizes. And Florida — yes, sadly that place has shown me again and again how Florida Florida can be (sigh) — but also, oh my lord, how amazing Cuban coffee is.
Every place has value and beauty and lessons. Just like every person.
Questions are the Quest
What I came to be deeply curious about, amidst an impressive career that became less so with each passing day (that’s for the memoir lol), is why we make the choices we do. Why do we each have the challenges and gifts we do? How can we make our lives more joyous, prosperous, and fun? And how do we handle the hard stuff way better?
These questions increasingly rattled me. We weren’t talking about the things that actually mattered in network news, like love and mercy, forgiveness and healing, the natural world and mysteries of life, things that unite us, and it kept bothering me. Big time. There had to be keys to unlock this world. There had to be more. I was on top and miserable. I couldn’t do this for the rest of my life. It was a lie. And not a nice one.
Being in network news in the early oughts — oof — I left my staff job. People thought I was nuts. But I couldn’t live with myself in that role. Success and dreams coming true didn’t make me happy. What the heck? (Hello, Saturn return.) I also saw from my perch of access that another game was being played — in news, politics, business, and the world at large. I tried to make changes there and finally saw that a young, naive me was not going to break down the system. Not that way and not yet. So I left. To find more.

And did I find more. Of course it didn’t look like I thought it would. It brought me both far more than I ever imagined while also showing me there is always another game afoot. Awakenings are no joke. Luckily, neither are the people you meet along the way. So many angels. There really is so much more good!
Astrology went from an interest I read about, to a hobby, to a central part of my life and work. It is a wisdom that aids us — I still seek to understand just how these moons and stars can tell us so much about ourselves (cuz what kind of magic IS this) — and while I ask those questions I am excited to share the wisdom with you. To help you on your journey.
For years you’d have found me in a corner at parties or dinners, huddled with someone doing their chart. Talking about very personal things, often with a complete stranger. That connection — and seeing the effect of the reading — gave me the satisfaction I’d always wanted in journalism: making a tangible difference in someone’s life. Knowing their gifts and challenges and dreams and fears were right there in their chart helped whoever was in front of me feel better about whatever they were going through. Seen. Understood. Relieved.
We all want to be seen. We all want to improve our lives and world. This work does that.
Someone eventually insisted on paying me (Hey, Lady!) A few business-minded friends helped with that part — because that is not my natural gift lol and none of us does it alone — and voilà lol! Here we are.
