Astrocartography: A Traveler’s Guide to Aligning Your Astrology with Your Destinations

There’s no better time than Sagittarius season—the season of travelers—to talk about Astrocartography!

Astrocartography is a branch of astrology that focuses on how specific locations on Earth interact with an individual’s birth chart. It’s essentially a map that shows where certain astrological energies (represented by planets, signs, and aspects) are most strongly activated for you at different geographic locations. And at different times.

Astrocartography is a blend of astrology and maps. Essentially, places have their own astrological energies, and so do you. Depending on when you want to go somewhere—whether it’s a move, a vacation, or a new adventure—it can activate certain parts of your astrological chart, such as Venus, Uranus, Saturn, etc. Looking into Astrocartography can help you understand what a place means for you and what phase you might be activating or dealing with in your life.

Yes, I use it. Yes, I suggest you do, too. It’s some kinda magic…

Why Use Astrocartography?

Do you want to move across the state, country, or even the world? Are you questioning whether you should take a job in another place—or pursue a career elsewhere? Does some place just seem to call you, for reasons you can’t really explain? Even a vacation activates a place’s energy in your chart. And if it’s a significant trip, like getting engaged, married, or course of study, it’s even more impactful.

Looking at a place in your chart a point in time can reveal a bit about what’s in store for you there.

But here’s the important part: like all astrology, this is not a “cheat code.” It’s not about bypassing challenges or avoiding experiences. The universe doesn’t work that way. However, if you’re choosing between two cities to move to, some astrocartography can help. Something has to tip the scales, after all. May as well be the astrology lol.

I say this because some people believe they can move to a place with “better lines” and therefore avoid difficult experiences. Uh no. Hard no. We can’t game the system, and we don’t want to! The goal is to work with it in a way that maximizes our growth and experience. That means, if we have to move somewhere for work or a program, or a job or family something-or-other, and the astrocartography suggests challenges, we are prepared, always remembering it’s for our personal growth. Likewise, going somewhere promising abundance and love doesn’t mean without challenges. It’s about being prepared and maximizing our time somewhere, including making the most of the challenges (that’s called winning lol) and playing to the good parts. This part of astrology can help us with that.

How Astrocartography Works

Astrocartography is based on the idea that each planet in your natal chart has a unique influence on different parts of the world. The placement of planets in the sky at the time of your birth is mapped across the globe to see how they align with specific locations. In simple terms, it’s like finding your “light spots” based on the cosmic energies you were born with.

The map shows lines corresponding to different planets in your birth chart, and each line represents where that planet’s energy is strongest. These lines are called planetary lines. For example:

  • Venus line: Could bring romantic energy, money, or creativity to a specific place.
  • Mars line: Might influence drive, passion, or conflict in a location.
  • Jupiter line: Associated with expansion, luck, and growth.
  • Saturn line: Linked to hard work, structure, and discipline.

Types of Lines in Astrocartography

  • Sun Line: Represents your core self, purpose, and identity.
  • Moon Line: Connected to emotions, intuition, and comfort.
  • Mercury Line: Focuses on communication, travel, and learning.
  • Venus Line: Linked to love, beauty, harmony, finances, and relationships.
  • Mars Line: Tied to energy, assertiveness, and action.
  • Jupiter Line: Associated with luck, growth, and opportunities.
  • Saturn Line: Relates to challenges, discipline, and career.
  • Uranus, Neptune, Pluto Lines: These are more transformative, often representing sudden changes, deep spirituality, and transformation, respectively.

Astrocartography Resources

OK, so I do not do readings for it myself, but I know personally that Yael Yardeni at the Kabbalah Centre is a wizardess in it. I’ve gotten readings from her and so if you can get a reading with her, do it.  (I can do your astrology chart, so if you want a reading book here.)

To learn more about astrocartography, Tania Gabrielle teaches about it and you can find out more about it on her site. I haven’t taken her classes, but I follow her work and she is wise af and so if curious about it, I suggest you check her out (and then come back and tell me how it was!)

Also, Astro-Seek.com can do your chart for free online. But really, like all wisdom it’s important to have someone knowledgable read it: I don’t do my own charts for a reason. Yes, learn about it, but find someone you trust to do the reading.

And if you know of great people who do readings, by all means share it in the comments! But like, they have to be legit solid genius level – that’s all we do here 😉

My Personal Astrocartography Experience

I will tell you that before I move somewhere, I have my astrocartographer check what that place means for me. No joke. Did I do it before I moved to Los Angeles? Well, that time, it was actually a gift from a bestie who knew about astrocartography before I did, lol. But I learned from that and wow was it amazing. And then, I did it before I moved to Paris. (As for apartments I move to, I consult my Feng Shui expert every time. She doesn’t play. Article on that shortly.)

What the astrology told me was that, yes, these places held significant energies for me—and to go. I mean, I already felt that pull, but it cemented that I was on the right track. Funny thing is, when I left LA, the astrology for me and that city had changed. It was no longer for me as it had been.

Remember, our actions and work in this world changes things. It’s not about good or bad, it’s about growth and expansion (lol classic Sag take) and abundance and love.

A place holds energies and we do want we do with that with our energies…it’s in our hands. Nothing is stagnant. Things change. That’s ok. We are to flow with it.

The Ever-Changing Nature of Astrocartography

That’s the thing: there’s no “final answer.” Meaning, we change, astrology changes, and where we should be changes. Your astrological map can shift, and a place that once felt like the right fit might not resonate with you forever. Astrocartography is not a static blueprint but a dynamic tool to guide you toward places that align with your growth at any given time.
