Written and published under the Sun and Moon in Capricorn (not intentional just happened lol gotta love the magic.)
As Capricorns are big-picture, long-term goal people, at this time we can take stock of our lives using these talents to our best interest. And as they are adept at both the material and emotional worlds – they are actually très très good at understanding emotions, even if they aren’t outwardly emotional – it’s a great time to take stock of things in our personal world so we can affect the exterior world. That is how it works, after all. As Capricorns are good at manifesting in the world, let’s start from the inside and see what’s off in our life’s construction, so we can use this month’s gifts to build what we want and make needed changes.
Why Capricorn Season is the Time for Reflection and Building
As a sign rooted in the physical world, Capricorns are great at teaching us about building. So let’s get to it this season!
While connecting with an old friend, I found myself writing something I’ve been thinking about a lot: We aren’t taught how to build a life. Let alone one that feels good and fulfilling to our individual wants and needs. Capricorn season is a great time to reflect on our lives and how to build done we enjoy. Capricorn is the sign of building and constructing, after all, and it’s tied to money and values. We make money and spend money according to these values, so it’s a great time to think about how our lives are built and whether they’re serving us.
Capricorn is a challenging month, one of the three most challenging months actually according to Kabbalists. So know this build and time won’t be easy, but with work it will be worth it. Where there are big challenges there are also big blessings.
Take Stock and Create an Action Plan
Capricorns can get things done and are all about organization. So, we can take stock of the status of our lives this month, create an action plan for change, and implement it with high rates of success.
What’s notable about Capricorn’s coldness (ruled by Saturn, the planet with the ring around it – keep away, lol) is that it actually serves us here. We can objectively look at the status of our life: friends, family, health, work, money, spiritual world, adventure, fun, growth, and joy, and take an inventory of things. If we are happy in some areas, great! But if we are unfulfilled and slipping, we can deal with it.
Aligning with the New Year and Building the Life You Want
Lining up with New Year’s works out well in this way. Pope Gregory XIII was a Capricorn and is how we got the Gregorian calendar we currently use. It’s not a natural calendar, but as everything happens for a reason, we can use it to our advantage since it’s the calendar we’re currently using.
What Would A Capricorn Do?
Decide what you want. Focus. Find ways to stay motivated. Learn the habits of successful people who have done what you want. Refocus and adjust as things happen. Learn from the best.
People talk about Mercury signs (Virgo and Gemini) being great writers, but Capricorns are some of the best. Life lessons, including cautionary tales, abound in their work. People talk about life coaches, but to me, writers are life coaches. These folks not only wrote inspiringly, but they also lived it as well:
Alan Watts, A.A. Milne, Carlos Castaneda, Carl Sandburg, David Sedaris, Donna Tartt, Edgar Allen Poe, E.M. Forster, Haruki Murakami, Henry Miller, Jack London, J.D. Salinger, J.R.R. Tolkien, Kahlil Gibran, Martin Luther King, Jr., Molière, Norman Maclean (OMG, A River Runs Through It is peak Capricorn and so good, lol), Patti Smith, Patricia Highsmith, Paul Bowles, Rod Serling, Simone de Beauvoir, Umberto Eco, Zora Neale Hurston.
Lessons from Capricorn Writers and Leaders
Now, Alan Watts and Kahlil Gibran’s works are noted for their spiritual teachings on how to move through life, and people use them as bibles. Notably inspiring is Dr. King’s work and life. Many of the others’ lives weren’t ideal (I love de Beauvoir, but her cold, calculating cruelty was also a thing, and Miller was a sexist ass), but their works show us the paths taken and not taken, the effect of our choices, and how that determines our life. They also offer lessons in what matters and what to focus on. One can also learn about what not to do and be.
Building a Life: Embrace Capricorn’s Energy for Transformation
As we move through Capricorn season, let’s remember that building a life isn’t something we’re traditionally taught, but it’s something we can actively create for ourselves. This time of year offers a perfect opportunity to reflect on our personal foundations—our values, goals, and the structures that support our daily lives. By channeling the Capricorn energy of focus, organization, and practical action, we can identify where we’re thriving and where we may need to make adjustments. It’s a time to be honest with ourselves, to take inventory, and to make changes that align with our true desires. Just as Capricorns excel at manifesting success in the material world, we too can manifest lives that reflect our deepest values. Let’s build wisely, one step at a time, and embrace the potential for growth, transformation, and fulfillment that this season brings.
