Unlocking the Power of Feng Shui: More Than Just Redecorating – A Guide to Harmonizing Your Space

It’s the new year, and it’s a great time to Feng Shui your life. Yes, Feng Shui is about more than just object placement in your home. (I had no idea either!)

I am someone who benefits from Feng Shui my life. It encompasses more than furniture and art placement, though that is a part of it. It’s about the foods you eat, colors you wear, and more. As it changes yearly, monthly, and daily too, it’s a reminder that it’s always a good time to balance with ourselves and our surroundings. We have many tools to use to make our lives better, and this could be one for you. (As always, make sure anyone you work with is legit.)

The Lunar year of the Wood Snake just started. Feng Shui to connect to the energies this upcoming year.
The year of the Wood Snake is here. Learning about Feng Shui from an expert can help you prepare for and connect to the energies this year. Or not lol.

The 411 on Feng Shui

Feng Shui literally means “wind-water.” This ancient Chinese practice brings harmony and balance into our lives based on the placement and arrangement of items. The flow (qi), when arranged in a harmonious way, promotes equilibrium and can diminish disturbances.

For over 10 years, I have worked with Feng Shui Master Anette Halfon, and I have seen the difference it brings to my life and others. You may want to find out more about it and get a reading for your home and/or office. (And no she is not paying me to say this lol!)

My Experience aka Why I’m Sharing This With You

When I met Halfon I wasn’t particularly interested in her work lol. Sure, I studied Kabbalah and astrology, but Feng Shui to me were words I didn’t know anything about and so held no meaning. Putting a picture here or there based on some old principle was all I knew. Friends loved it and lived by it, but whatever, it’s not for me. Or so I thought.

That’s the thing about learning – it changes us.

Halfon was doing a free class in L.A. on love and dating one night and I had no intention of going. While a really fine thing for others to do, honestly, I thought it was a bad cliché (classic Sag, lol.) Easy pass.

But something happened that day: her class kept coming up. I ran into a friend at Aharon Coffee & Roasting that morning who asked if I was going. I’d honestly forgotten. Later that day, I got a message from a friend asking if she’d see me there. Now, I am all about signs, obviously, so I thought, I’ll bite. Clearly, the universe is more than nudging me.

Halfon was a wellspring of information, with hilarious and heartfelt anecdotes to highlight her Feng Shui experience. The lecture had me realizing this information yielded practical results (I mean, ancient practices from profound cultures usually do, lol.) For many, it improved life – from safety to joy to manifesting money and love, it is a useful practice to aid our lives – and I am all about that.

While I didn’t get how it worked — she would count a lot and then say something about the Southwest or something lol — she’d studied it and lived by it and saw the difference it made in people’s lives. For some reason, when a bed is in a certain place or you wear certain colors and eat certain foods, things change. Yes, it is about way more than just where to hang a picture.

It sounded out there, but thousands of years of Chinese cultural use and a (brilliant) Gemini telling me some serious anecdotal stories had me more than curious. I knew there was something to it.

We left the class, and she said to us all, “just try these things I’ve told youand see.” I was curious, so I went home and did the few item swaps in my home, like, maybe six things, and went to sleep.

The next day, everything shifted. From the minute I was out and about, it was like I had a spotlight on me, and people were talking to me more. It felt like guys were following me down the street, and my phone was ringing. It was absurd. It felt like I was being punked. Then I remembered the Feng Shui changes. Whoa. All because I moved a knickknack here and there?

Show me results, and I’m down. Especially that fast. I booked a reading, and the session, well over an hour, included a form of information for me to keep with foods to eat (and not), colors not to wear (and not), as well as the calendar, months, and days that were auspicious, and more. My entire house got moved around, all rooms, which was hard for me because, you know, I want things to look good.

But, as Anette has you sign a paper saying you will do everything she says, or she doesn’t want to hear about it, I did it. The thing is, the place always looks better after the changes. Because the flow is the thing. (It’s magic, I tell you, lol!)

I’d gotten to a place in my life where I was that open. And wow, has it yielded fruits. Beyond. Every year.

For me, a yearly Feng Shui reading, around the lunar new year at the start of February, is a yearly staple bill. I mean, I have no idea why depending on whether my front door is west and it’s an OX year, it makes a difference on where I sleep or work… but it does, and so I do it. And no, it’s not like life has no problems after you get a reading or Feng Shui your home, that’s asinine. But, with Feng Shui, you have the wind at your back, so to speak. It’s a bit like exercising and eating well; you maximize your health so when something happens, you are best prepared. And you can also avert things.

I also follow @5elementsoracle on IG who posts daily energies.

Feng Shui information is found on IG and more. Just make sure you are learning from an experienced master and not an imposter.
Feng Shui information can be found on IG, etc. Just make sure you connect with an experienced master and not an imposter. I enjoy this account as it informs and it’s not my metier I enjoy the wisdom. Halfon’s Soul’s Mirror offers daily insight so I’m always on her page, too.

What’s it Based on?

When I told her my birthday (for that’s what it’s based on), she told me all about myself in a way that was like, I’m sorry, did you interview all my exes, co-workers, bosses, friends, family? Have you had a camera on me my whole life, Truman Show-style? HOW DID SHE KNOW THIS STUFF?! Intimate stuff, fears, deep dreams, and also challenges and pain points. She knew me in a way that made me feel very seen. (Kind of like when I do my astrology readings for others, lol.)

If you live with someone, or many someones in a family, that can be addressed too. It’s not just about you. The energy flow includes your family and surroundings, so others benefit.

There is Magic in This World… And it is Made

I share my experience because if you are on the fence about it, get a reading (from someone legit.) I highly suggest Halfon, but ask friends or others in your area. Yes, it’s about finances, health, love, and also joy, learning, and more. I think of it as getting in the flow with your energy and space. Maybe that items you’ve been holding onto needs to go? What you hold onto may be holding you back from something. Indeed, Halfon’s company is called Soul’s Mirror, which is what our homes are, right? I’d rather have it flow. And since our Western World (Patriarchal Capitalist White Supremacy) is not exactly in tune with the wind, water, moon, and stars, dragons and tigers, getting into the natural rhythms of nature seems a good call.

Listen, a part of life is letting go. Kids may attach to things, but show them something else, and the lost toy they cried about is a memory. They are adaptable. Flexible. That is the trait that keeps us young, according to yoga and science. Being in flow with our homes, but also with learning new things and trying new things, is a key to a youthful, joyful life. Being open to it may just be the flexible exercise to try something new you’ve been seeking. And yes, who knows what else it could bring?!

Practicals of Feng Shui

Yearly Changes in Feng Shui

• Yearly the sign changes and so the energy does. As you may know, we are in a Snake year, and depending on your year and your directions, it affects your home. It starts around the start of February at the lunar new year.

Partner and Kids Add Layers to Your Feng Shui

• If you have a partner and kids, that adds layers to your home layout and planning and so yes, can affect everyone. It can help everyone.

Feng Shui for Health, Wealth, and Relationships

• Health issues, financial growth, relationship challenges — it’s some practical magic that can broach all areas of our life. Protection. There is no fear mongering here, there is awareness, planning, and proactive moves.

Get a Yearly Feng Shui Reading

• Get a yearly reading to prepare your home and office for the year ahead. It’s the New Year planning and spring cleaning all in one. It’s good to move things around and check in drawers and throw things out anyway; it helps literally keep your space organized. Clean space clean mind. Health is wealth and hoarding old items that do not bring us joy is no bueno lol.

Monthly Feng Shui Changes

• Monthly, it changes! Currently, we are in a Tiger month. Knowing the energy can help plan life events, and also just know what may be ahead in a period. Again, no fear here, but awareness.

Daily Feng Shui Updates

• Daily, it changes! One day is Wood Pig, another Metal Ox. It all has meaning. While I don’t get all that myself – that’s what the experts are for – if you have a big meeting, interview, or deal, or are getting married, etc., knowing energies on a date matters. But remember, no fear around here. If you can’t move something around, it can still go great and at least you can prepare. Not everything can be on a great day for us, but knowing can help mitigate issues. I’ve been far less annoyed with flight delays and arrived earlier, avoiding issues, on certain days. That simple awareness eases so much. Everything is a Butterfly affect, me not being pissy helped how many people lol?!

Feng Shui and Your Food and Clothing Colors

• It’s about your home layout, furniture placement, and items, but also about foods you eat – what are better for you and not. And also she tells you colors you wear. I was blown away when she told me a detailed list of all the foods best for me, and it was like, yes, I don’t like those other things, lol. How she knows that from my birthday? No idea. Magic!

Vision Boarding

• Yes, of course I love a Vision Board. When I do mine yearly at this time of year, I put it in my corner (Halfon told me what that is) and see it always. First of all Vision Boards are a fun activity, and they connects us with manifesting what we want. Plus, they make me smile and isn’t that nice to have up in your room or office or space (or even as a phone screen saver?!)!

I usually host a party with friends – IFKYK – and it’s such a joy of mine to see their visions come through in the year. Coach Catherine Harris has a yearly vision board party, so you can zoom in with others and create. I did hers this year and it was nice to mix it up and get creative insight into things I didn’t think of for my board.
